CARIBBEAN SUN SHINES IN BLACKPOOL DURING BUMPER BIRD YEAR!

Nine Caribbean flamingo chicks are soaking up some homeland sun in Blackpool Zoo ’s bird nursery! The eight week old hatchlings are spending their days under specialist heat lamps as keepers hand rear them and make them feel at home with a daily dose of sunshine. They are also being fed round the clock on a fluid mixture of fish, shrimp, egg yolk, distilled water, flamingo pellets and vitamins and minerals. Peppa Pig fans are in for a real treat on Thursday 23rd August. NEW MUM FOR WILBUR THE WALLABY!

Rare animal adoption takes place at Blackpool Zoo !Wilbur the Wallaby has found happiness with a new family after his birth mother tragically passed away whilst he was still in the pouch. He has been ‘adopted’ by another female at Blackpool Zoo , which is an extremely rare occurrence amongst marsupials. Keepers came to work on June 16th to find Wilbur in the pouch of his mother, who had died during the night. They immediately removed him and the decision was taken to hand-rear him. Meerkat popularity at the zoo has soared since Aleksandr the Meerkat burst onto TV screens in 2009 with his unforgettable ‘simples’ catchphrase and the four tiny babies have been spotted scampering by delighted visitors in the past week. BLACKPOOL BABY BOOM MEANS MONKEY MAGIC
