Kiwi sports fans are set to put their money where their mouths are as the FIFA Women's World Cup kicks off on home turf this summer, according to an online casino directory.

NZCasinoClub.com is predicting a record-breaking number of bets being placed on the summer’s flagship sporting event, which is being jointly hosted by New Zealand and Australia in July and August.

A spokesman for NZCasinoClub.com said that with the rise in popularity of the women’s game and the fact that the US are facing genuine competition for the coveted FIFA 2023 Women’s World Cup winner status, the bets are on.

“The Kiwis love a wager on a good competition and the fact that FIFA Women’s World Cup is on home territory this year, the interest is going to be through the roof.”

“The USA are still favourites with odds at +275, but with the England women’s team winning the European Championship against Germany last year, they are close contenders at +350, Many are even predicting that England can topple USWNT (United States Women’s National Team).”

“Betting fans are well aware that sporting events can throw up big surprises, so it is worth considering that just behind the USWNT and England’s Lionesses, are Germany, Spain and France, who could all be in the running.”

“This year’s competition is more open than it has ever been, and with global interest in the women’s game at an all time high, we are predicting a bumper couple of months of online betting here in New Zealand and around the world.”

“The men’s FIFA World Cup last year generated NZD $57 billion in bets around the world. A whopping 65,000 New Zealanders alone placed bets on the men’s tournament. While the women’s event will not hit those levels, the excitement around this competition is going to drive bets way beyond anything we have seen before in the women’s game.”

“The last FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2019 saw bets worldwide of around NZD $160m, but we believe that this year’s event will generate bets that will far surpass that total,” he added.

There are 32 countries lined up to take part in the FIFA Women’s World Cup in eight different groups. This is the first time so many teams have been involved, with 24 at the last tournament in 2019. Also, in the top 10 odds for this summer’s tournament are hosts Australia, Netherlands, Canada, Brazil and Sweden.

The tournament kicks off on 20th July with opening games in both New Zealand and Australia on the same day. New Zealand will play Norway at Eden Park and Australia will be up against Ireland at Stadium Australia, the Olympic stadium in Sydney. The final will take place at Stadium Australia on 20th August. There will also be games in Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide in Australia, and in Wellington, Dunedin, Hamilton in New Zealand.
