Vectiq Acquires PlayCanada.com as Alberta Prepares to Open Canada's Next Regulated Market
Vectiq Inc., a Nevada-incorporated performance-acquisition group, has acquired PlayCanada.com from Catena Media US, Inc., one of the world's largest iGaming affiliate networks. The acquisition gives Vectiq an established, nationally recognised Canadian iGaming brand at a moment of historic consequence for the country's regulated market: Alberta opened regulated online gaming to private operators on 13 July 2026, adding a second major regulated province to a Canadian landscape already transformed by Ontario's iGaming Ontario framework.
PlayCanada.com, whose domain dates to the year 2000, is one of Canada's longest-standing iGaming media destinations, covering casino, sports betting, poker, and slots content across every major Canadian province, including Ontario and Alberta. For Vectiq, the acquisition is simultaneously a market entry and a statement of intent: the group is building a portfolio of iGaming media properties that generate regulated player acquisitions for operators through editorial content, SEO, paid media, free-to-play game mechanics, and robust CRM — a model described internally as "an affiliate built like an operator."
"PlayCanada.com is a brand that Canadians have trusted for a generation," said Pablo Ferreira, CEO of Vectiq.
"Alberta's regulated market will create an enormous demand for credible, province-literate guidance for players, and PlayCanada.com's editorial depth and national footprint put us in an exceptional position to meet it."
“PlayCanada.com is passing to a partner well placed to take it further. Vectiq's Canadian expertise and local presence make it ideally suited to grow the brand as Alberta opens up. This is our MRKTPLAYS+ strategy in action — backing strong partners to unlock more value in their markets. Canada remains an important market for Catena Media, and we're glad to see PlayCanada.com in good hands as it enters its next chapter," said Pierre Cadena, Chief Operating Officer of Catena Media.
Vectiq enters the Canadian market with a portfolio that now includes MaxSpinz.com, an Ontario-focused casino and sweepstakes review platform, alongside PlayCanada.com's national reach. The group's operating model brings together capabilities across organic search, paid media acquisition, free-to-play game mechanics, and robust CRM. That combination of disciplines, applied to assets with established domain authority and audience recognition, is the core thesis behind Vectiq's acquisition strategy.
Alberta's regulated market is a central piece of that thesis. With Ontario having demonstrated that a well-structured iGaming framework can generate significant regulated play while curbing grey-market activity, Alberta's launch represents the next frontier, and affiliate brands with Canadian credibility, province-specific content, and existing domain authority are positioned to be among its primary beneficiaries. PlayCanada.com's coverage of the Alberta market, including retail casino content and province-level regulatory guides, makes it a natural anchor for Vectiq's Alberta-facing strategy.
