After successfully launching e-commerce in Ukraine in May 2020, IKEA and Ingka Group has further expanded its presence in the country with its first physical store in Kyiv.

The city store format – which opened its doors today - is located at the Blockbuster Mall close to the heart of the capital, making it easily accessible for customers. The store’s convenience is key, helping bring IKEA closer to where people, live work and socialise

“The Kyiv store opening is an important achievement both for our Ukrainian operations and for the whole of IKEA South East Europe, as this is the first city store in the region”, said Florian Mellet, Market Manager at IKEA Kyiv at the opening of the store.

“When comfort and safety at home is more important than ever, we hope to inspire the many people to improve their everyday life at home. We are very excited to have welcomed our first Ukrainian customers to help make their home furnishing dreams come true,” he continued.

Moving to a physical location means customers have access to an expanded product offer of some 5,000 items. As living spaces tend to be quite small in Ukraine, the IKEA small store format will focus on smart home furnishing solutions for urban centres. Customers can get help with planning and designing their living spaces in a dedicated planning hub and can collect their goods after 24 hours in the store.

”Although this is not a full range, we have paid attention to covering all styles and functions with a specific attention on affordability,” Florian says.

Overall, 2,000 home furnishing products are available for cash and carry, while the remaining 3,000 – mostly furniture and other larger products – are available for order. They can then be collected for free at one of the store’s pick-up points, including one directly in a store, or delivered straight to their home for an additional charge.

Ingka Group, which now has a physical store presence in 31 countries after launching in Ukraine, will open more than 30 new IKEA meeting points including IKEA stores, shops and planning studios in FY21 (1 September 2020 – 31 August 2021).

Already in 2021, the first smaller IKEA store format in the U.S opened in Queens, New York. This follows on from both store and smaller format openings in India, Russia and China at the end of 2020, including IKEA Mumbai, the second store in India.
