IKEA Retail U.S. joins new electric vehicle alliance
100 percent electric, 100 percent of the time. That is the goal for IKEA Retail U.S. by 2025. And, to help this transition, IKEA Retail U.S. has signed a new alliance to help companies accelerate their transition to electric vehicles, a key part in tackling the climate crisis. The Corporate Electric Vehicle Alliance will help member companies make and achieve bold commitments to fleet electrification.
Zero-emission home deliveries are an essential part of how Ingka Group is transforming its business with a goal is to have all 30 Ingka Group countries worldwide offer 100% electric or emission-free services by the end of 2025.
"We have a commitment to use electric vehicles for all of our in-home furniture deliveries by 2025, and we know that we'll need to collaborate with our partners to make it happen," says Steven Moelk, Project Implementation Manager, Zero Emission Delivery, at IKEA Retail U.S.
“We're excited to team up with like-minded companies and work together toward an improved electric vehicle market and supportive policies through the Corporate Electric Vehicle Alliance,” Moelk says.
The Corporate Electric Vehicle Alliance aims to address challenges by providing a platform for members to collaborate to identify challenges and potential solutions. This can include the adoption of supportive policies and the removal of policy barriers and peer-to-peer learning about industry best practices. Other members include Amazon, DHL, Genentech, AT&T, and Siemens.
In January 2019 and one year ahead of its target, Shanghai became the first city in the IKEA franchisee system to achieve zero emissions target for home delivery EV transition, with Amsterdam, Los Angeles, New York, and Paris the next priorities by the end of 2020.
Ingka Group was one of the first partners to join the global initiative, EV100, in September 2018. The initiative is bringing together companies committed to accelerating the transition to electrical vehicles by 2030.
