CENTRAL FITNESS GIVES GIFTS GALORE

A month of fundraising at St Helens based Central Fitness resulted in gifts galore for families whose children are being treated at the Ormskirk Neonatal Unit at the Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust. Bottles, bibs, booties and blankets were donated for the babies along with chocolate, DVD’s, books, toys and drawing sets for visiting brothers and sisters. Gifts for parents included tasty treats and printer paper and ink for those all important first family photographs. Throughout April Central Fitness collected money and worked with staff at the hospital to come up with a wish list of gifts that would come in useful for the hundreds of families that pass through the Neonatal Unit each year. Nick Tildesley, Centre Manager at Central Fitness, said: “We initially started this as a drive to collect any unwanted Easter eggs, which we could donate to the brothers and sisters of the babies on the unit, but it very quickly snowballed into a huge fundraising campaign. “Gym members and staff were very generous and we raised enough money to buy something for everyone that is affected when a baby is admitted to the Neonatal unit. “It was great to go along and meet some of the families whose babies are currently being cared for by the hospital, including Gill Reason and her beautiful newborn twins William and Isaac. “Spending time on the unit also gave me a real insight into what a fantastic job all the staff do on a daily basis.” Shirley Coward, Matron for Paediatrics and Neonatal at the Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust, said: “The gifts that were donated from Central Fitness will go a long way to helping families during a very stressful time. “It was wonderful to see that Nick and his team had researched and thought about what would be useful and things that are often overlooked, like printer paper and ink, are always very gratefully received.” ends Please see below link to picture, which shows (L to R) Frank Moody of Central Fitness, Midwife Vicky Norman-Williams, baby William Reason, mum Gill Reason with Isaac Reason and Nick Tildesley, Centre Manager at Central Fitness
