ISG Wins First Scheme on Renewed North West Framework
ISG has secured the first contract to be awarded under the renewed North West Construction Hub (NWCH) Medium Value Framework - a £2 million education scheme for Manchester City Council in East Manchester.
The company was reappointed to the NWCH Medium Value Framework after delivering public sector projects across the North West valued in excess of £124 million on the previous capital works framework. The scheme involves the refurbishment of a former local authority care home in Longsight, Manchester to create replacement special educational needs (SEN) facilities for Rodney House School.
Rodney House School is currently based at Barrass Street in Openshaw but also provides a specialist preschool SEN service and assessment provision for preschool children with significant special educational needs at a number of locations across Manchester. The refurbishment scheme will enable Rodney House to consolidate its specialist facilities on a single site, as well as providing the expansion space needed for the school to accommodate extra pupils. When complete, the new Rodney House facilities will provide permanent full-time SEN school places for up to 60 children aged 3-11.
ISG is underway with an enabling phase ahead of the main project commencement, carrying out roofing repairs, demolition and strip out works and the erection of a permanent security fence. The main project sees the existing building extensively remodelled to accommodate the change of use, with structural alterations to form new entrances and reconfiguration of internal walls.
The refurbishment sees the creation of classroom accommodation, assessment rooms, therapy areas, staff and peripatetic health visitors’ offices, toilet facilities, an assembly hall and a dining area. Space at the 45,000 sq ft building has been carefully designed to reflect the requirements of pupils with a broad spectrum of specialist needs.
Wide ranging external works are also included in the programme, including modifications to the existing car park to create additional capacity and pick up/drop off bays for mini bus school transport. ISG will also create a variety of play and social areas within the grounds of the new school, with a mix of hard and soft landscaping.
