Welsh family firm Deane’s Removals has updated a key vehicle in its four-strong fleet with a 14-tonne IVECO Eurocargo, replacing the removal and storage company’s loyal 1996 Eurocargo, which has been retired after 500,000km on the road.

The specialist body on the firm’s new Eurocargo was built by Unique Van Bodies of Warrington, and supplied by Stoke-on-Trent-based IVECO dealer Sherwood Truck & Van. The 4x2 rigid will be maintained throughout its expected long life in service by Parry’s Commercials – an IVECO authorised repairer situated just four miles away from the customer’s Llandudno Junction-based headquarters.

The Eurocargo’s box body, which has been finished in Deane’s Removals’ distinctive brown and cream livery, features large ‘canopy side-loader’ doors that lock open, allowing the firm’s expert team to load packing crates, storage containers and large items of furniture straight into the body. Following a family tradition, the Eurocargo has been named Jessica Deane, after the owners’ granddaughter.

The truck was also specified with a twin-bunk sleeper pod built atop its cab – a cab the company’s owner, Alistair Deane, reserved particular praise for, thanks to one vital feature: “The Eurocargo is the only medium truck on the market which can be specified with a passenger bench seat in the cab, together with a flat floor – and in our line of work, that’s a vital convenience.

“This means the Eurocargo can carry more crew, and they can enter and exit the cab directly onto the pavement, no matter which way the vehicle is facing. Plus, in the tight streets and alleyways we frequently find ourselves working in, having full access to the cab from either side can be a big help.”

Deane adds: “We more than got our money’s worth from our last Eurocargo – by the time we retired her, she’d travelled the equivalent of more than 12 times around the Earth, giving us two decades of reliable service. On the back of this performance, it was a simple business decision to replace like-for-like.

“Our new Eurocargo handles extremely well, and we’re confident we’ll get the same sterling service as before. My team is really looking forward to putting her to the test on some of our longer distance jobs.”

The Eurocargo 140E21/P was specified with rear air suspension, to aid loading and unloading. This also allows the driver to raise the suspension before tackling steep hills and driveways, to reduce the risk of the body’s long overhang grounding.

The vehicle is powered by a 4.5 litre IVECO Tector engine capable of producing up to 210 hp between 2,050 and 2,500 rev/min, and up to 750 Nm of torque between 1,400 and 1,800 rev/min, offering plenty of power for even the most demanding roads.

The Tector engine also benefits from IVECO’s unique HI-SCR technology, which utilises passive regeneration of the diesel particulate filter – meaning there is no need to make periodic stops for forced regeneration, as can happen with EGR systems. IVECO’s HI-SCR technology also offers improved fuel efficiency and extended maintenance intervals, plus it is less complex and lighter than rival engine technologies – resulting in a payload advantage.

Deane’s Removals is a proud member of the British Association of Removers, ensuring that the company’s customers always have peace of mind. Deane’s Removals also maintains a container storage facility, and provides removals services around the UK, and internationally on request.
