Nottinghamshire based construction services firm Oakfield Plant and Transport has added a second Iveco Trakker 8x4 on/off-road rigid to its fleet of 10 trucks, just nine months after purchasing its first ever Iveco.

Supplied by Sherwood Truck & Van, the Trakker AD340T41 has been fitted with a Thompson all-steel Loadmaster Lite tipper body and will be used for transporting aggregates and recycling, as well as carrying out muck-shifting duties across the Midlands.

The vehicle is expected to remain on fleet for five years, covering approximately 60,000 km a year.  It will be used primarily for daytime work, up to six days a week, and joins a mixed fleet including trucks from three other rival brands.

Alex Bausor, Plant Manager at Oakfield Plant and Transport, says: “We were in the market for a new 32-tonne tipper last year and we looked at a number of different options.  We’d not had an Iveco before, but the Trakker’s specification ticked all of the right boxes and the price from Sherwood was competitive.

“Based on this first Trakker’s performance we were happy to consider another one – and Sherwood honoured the same attractive package.  Plus we’ve added a telematics system on this vehicle as well, allowing us to monitor fuel performance closely,” he adds.

Plated at 32 tonnes, the latest Trakker benefits from FPT’s powerful 12.8 litre EEV-rated Cursor 13 engine, which is capable of producing up to 410 hp between 1,515 and 1,900 rev/min, ensuring maximum power is available from intermediate speeds to allow smooth driving even on rough terrain.  Also key to the Trakker’s performance is the 1,900 Nm of torque available between 1,000 and 1,515 rev/min, which aids manoeuvring in adverse operating conditions, and is driven through an automated EuroTronic transmission.

The EuroTronic gearbox also allows manual changes made in semi-automatic mode to be controlled via the steering column stalk, whilst the selection of automatic and semi-automatic modes, neutral, reverse and the low speed manoeuvring mode (forward and reverse) are controlled from three dash-mounted buttons located to the left of the steering column.

The specification also includes single reduction Meritor axles and all-round ventilated disc brakes, which are standard specification on all 6x4 and 8x4 rigid Trakker model variants.  The disc brakes ensure the best possible braking performance, whilst also ensuring simpler and faster maintenance which helps to minimise downtime during vehicle servicing.
