Tip-Ex 2014, Stand A3-4, Harrogate – 29 to 31 May 2014

Iveco’s new Euro VI Trakker on/off road heavy truck is making its Tip-Ex debut alongside a line-up of models from 5.2 to 44 tonnes, to highlight their suitability for on/off-road tipper operations. The stand is being run in conjunction with local dealer North East Truck & Van, one of the largest independent commercial vehicle dealer groups in the UK.

Trakker 8x4 tipper

The Trakker AT340T41 is on display in the same striking Dakar Green paintwork shared by the four Iveco trucks which competed in and finished this year’s gruelling Dakar Rally in South America. It features the spacious Hi-Track low roof sleeper cab which uses high quality materials with top-quality plastics and anti-scratch treatments and is mounted with a Wilcox Wilcolite insulated smooth tipper body, built to tackle construction sites, quarries and demanding on/off-road missions.

The Trakker is equipped with a high-tech Iveconnect system, which allows drivers to easily manage infotainment, navigation, driving support tools and advanced fleet management services from a single screen.

Externally the cab styling is characterised by a distinctive grille and stylish light assemblies which are protected against collision. The bumper also incorporates a platform which, together with two handles integrated into the front grille, facilitates easy cleaning of the windscreen. Plus, new at Euro VI, an oil dipstick checker and oil filler have been conveniently located under the front grille for ease of maintenance.

Visitors will be able to see FPT Industrial’s high efficiency selective catalytic reduction engine technology, called HI-eSCR, which offers multiple benefits to construction fleets. These include weight reduction, optimised fuel consumption and increased durability thanks to a less complex, yet highly efficient technology, which meets the new emissions limits via a simplified after-treatment system and without the use of EGR (exhaust gas recirculation).

The Cursor 13 engine produces 410 hp between 1,400 and 1,900 rev/min and a massive 2,100 Nm of torque between 1,000 and 1,400 rev/min. The ZF 12-speed EuroTronic gearbox can be driven in semi-automatic or fully automated mode to best suit the terrain, and features a gear selector built into the steering column stalk, for maximum driving ease.

Stralis Hi-Road

On display alongside the Trakker is a Stralis Hi-Road 6x2 tractor unit with a ‘wet kit’ for bulk tipping trailers. Featuring Iveco’s optimum cab for distribution and fleet operations as well as medium to long-haul missions, this model combines sleek aerodynamics with the latest technology to help operators reduce running costs and enhance the on-board package for drivers.

Like all Euro VI Stralis rigids and tractor units, this 44-tonne tractor unit features an all-new Super Engine Brake (SEB) which uses an exhaust throttle valve in combination with the new electronic variable geometry turbo (VGT) to improve the performance by up to 30 per cent compared to previous versions. The engine brake is integrated with the service braking system and with the optional auxiliary retarder.

This model also benefits from Iveco’s unique ‘Driving Style Evaluation’ (DSE) system, which allows the driver to improve his/her driving behaviour in real time and can generate fuel savings of between 5 per cent and 12 per cent, superior to any single technology solution. The system works by processing data acquired by the engine, vehicle, and through an advanced Iveco algorithm, to provide two types of real time feedback on driving style, together with suggested steps to reduce fuel consumption, displayed on the dashboard.

It also features a suite of additional fuel-saving functions including Iveco’s ground-breaking EcoSwitch, which uses vehicle weight information to minimise fuel consumption. The accompanying EcoFleet function restricts manual mode to help fine-tune fuel economy.

This Stralis Hi-Road is equipped with a Cursor 11 engine, optimised for 460 hp between 1,600 and 1,900 rev/min, and capable of delivering up to 2,150 Nm of torque from just 925 rev/min up to 1,500 rev/min.

Eurocargo tipper

Iveco’s Euro VI Eurocargo range is also making its Tip-Ex debut, with a 75E16 on display fitted with a Brit-Tipp tipper body from Iveco’s Driveaway Options range of ready-bodied vehicles.

The Brit-Tipp body features a steel front end double dropside tipping body complete with heavy duty ladder gantry and top and bottom hinged rear tailgate, with the body weighing just 1,110 kg for an ultra-competitive payload. This model can be optionally specified with a 50mm tow ball and pin with seven pin trailer connection for the tipper body.

This Eurocargo is typical of the many DriveAway Options vehicles which can be purchased from Iveco dealer forecourts across the UK, with a two year unlimited mileage warranty covering the body as well as a warranty of up to 200,000km for the chassis. This gives customers the assurance of quality engineering from an Iveco accredited bodybuilder.

The model on show is powered by the latest FPT Industrial Euro VI Tector 5 engine, which offers increased durability over the previous EEV engine generation, combined with enhanced driver comfort through reduced engine noise and vibration.

All new Euro VI Eurocargos feature a redesigned instrument panel which displays essential information about the vehicle’s performance and route, including fuel level, tyre pressure, average fuel consumption, current fuel consumption, maintenance schedules, travel time and average speed.

External displays

Outside the entrance to Tip-Ex, Iveco is exhibiting a flagship Stralis Hi-Way 6x2 twin-steer tractor unit (AS440S46TX/P) in the colours of Ed Weetman, which took delivery of its first ever Iveco in 2013 and has already placed a repeat order.

Mounted with a light bar and flashing beacons, this Stralis features a ‘wet kit’ and will be used to transport tipper trailers filled with large volumes of agricultural feed, combinable crops and quarry products nationwide.

The Stralis Hi-Way is joined outside by an Iveco Daily 50C15D crew cab tipper, with space for a driver and a six-man crew, and is mounted with an Ingimex tipper body from Iveco’s DriveAway Options programme.
