IVU User Forum attracts record number of participants

This year, the IVU User Forum took place for the twenty-sixth time in the Estrel Hotel Berlin. On 10 and 11 March, customers and partners of IVU Traffic Technologies AG had the opportunity to listen to a variety of talks and to visit an accompanying exhibition in order to learn more about the latest trends in the sector and to discuss the current challenges facing public transport. This event has established itself as an important meeting place for the sector, as is demonstrated by its popularity: some 450 representatives of public transport companies from 12 countries took up the invitation to come to Berlin.

As this year’s keynote speaker, IVU welcomed Michael Carmincke, CEO of the Aachen-based ASEAG public transport company. He opened the two day forum with a speech on the current and future challenges facing service providers in public transport entitled ‘From transport company to integrated mobility service provider’. Carmincke showed ways in which public transport providers can successfully compete with individual mobility options. One thing is particularly important according to Michael Carmincke, namely “that innovations should reduce the thresholds to using public transport and pick up new demand trends.” The needs of the customers must be at the forefront and all developments should focus on individuality, flexibility, and highly-accessible services.

Under this motto, the talks given at this Forum addressed topics in fields such as e-ticketing, innovations in planning of timetables, vehicle workings, and schedules, as well as real-time apps and Google services. In the accompanying exhibition, IVU engineers demonstrated the technical innovations and IT systems behind such services. The entire range of IVU.suite functions was presented, from planning and dispatching, through operational control, ticketing and passenger information to settlement. All the systems could be tested and questions could be discussed in depth.

IVU is also very pleased about the high level of participation in the User Groups which have been started in 2009. Customers come together to discuss the system requirements of tomorrow and in this way they provide important new impulses for developments. Because the more specifically expectations are formulated, the better they can then be implemented on the system-side. The User Groups regularly present their results at the IVU User Forum.

Other systems support the choice of branch locations or ensure that election results are determined correctly.
