(March 6, 2012 – Phoenix, AZ) – Internationally recognized master artist Judith Durr, a Native American, brings her artwork and spectacular style to the Pearce Museum in Corsicana, TX. While Western art is riding high in the saddle as master artists take to Texas in the Eighth Annual Western Artists of America Exhibition and Sale at the Pearce Museum, Judith Durr will be part of this prestigious juried event for the very first time – and is sure to be a contender for the top honors.

Judith Durr always knew she wanted to paint and found the path to that dream later in life.

“When the opportunity arose for me and I was able to take some art classes I found my passion. And a real joy when I found that I just want to paint. In preserving the legacy and history of the First People’s and painting artifacts collected throughout the Americas has been most satisfying to me and my collectors appreciate the authenticity. Capturing emotions with realism and authenticity has become my signature,” explained Durr. “Coming home to Texas for the WAA Exhibition at the Pearce Museum is an achievement I savor.”

“Western Art continues to be a popular investment,” said Ed Holmes, president of Western Artists of America. “Many of our WAA artists have long resumes and price points that are attractive to collectors of fine art.  Texans and art lovers will quickly discover that Judith Durr is one of our very best artists at the 2012 Exhibition and Sale.”

Corsicana’s motto is where “Country Meets Culture” and, simply stated, that means people will find everything here from armadillos to antiques, from rodeo to rare civil war documents, and from fruitcakes to fine Western art.

“We are delighted to host the Eighth Annual Western Artists of America (WAA) Exhibition and Sale here at the Pearce Museum, on the campus of Navarro College (http://www.NavarroCollege.edu). It is a wonderful opportunity, not only for the museum, but also for the community,” said Holly Beasley, executive director of the Pearce Museum. “While the museum is just south of Dallas/Fort Worth, an event of this caliber will surely put Corsicana on the cultural map and bring a higher level of prestige to the Pearce Museum.”

Beginning her journey into painting in 1990, Durr has excelled in her craft until now, as a Western Artist of America member, she has reached the pinnacle of Master Artist.

“I am always mindful of my Native American heritage, Choctaw-Cherokee, and respectful of the legacy left from our talented ancestors by their beadwork, pottery, weavings, and jewelry.  It gives me a feeling of admiration and reverence for their creativity. Painting from my extensive collection of artifacts brings life to the history and stories documented in my paintings with harmony and balance,” said Durr.

“To accomplish the realism,   I use many thin layers of paint and glazes.  The process,” Durr adds, “paint upon paint, 12 layers in all to accomplish the quality of superior paintings.  I want the viewer to feel the impulse to want to reach out to feel the fabric, the beadwork, the smoothness of the pottery or pick the kernels from the corn because the illusion is complete.”

Her highly regarded paintings are in constant demand and she has a consistent flow of requests for commissioned pieces from her collectors.
