Cheshire Business Scores Grand Designs Double
STRUCTURAL Glass specialists Clear Living, are celebrating after learning two of their client projects are in the running for Grand Designs: House of the Year.
The company, based in Wincham, Cheshire, were brought in by architects to provide bespoke frameless glass frontage and minimal windows for properties in Formby, Liverpool, and in Criccieth, Gwynedd.
The homes are amongst only 20 to make the national longlist, with the finalists being revealed each Wednesday during special episodes of the Channel 4 property show. The competition is run annually by the Royal Institute of British Architects, and rewards the architect behind the project.
Company Director Kristian Hansen, said: “We pride ourselves on providing the very best design, supply and installation of structural and frameless glass to residential and commercial clients across the UK.
“For the property in Formby we were asked to provide minimal sliding doors which we managed using our Sky-Frame system. This gives a frameless appearance, with only 20mm sightline between the glass panels. Structural glazing on the front elevation gave a smooth flush appearance.
“The property in Gwynedd was incredibly exposed, so wind and airtightness were very important. Structural glazing was used extensively to provide large 3000mm x 3000mm fixed panels. Minimal sliding doors were used with our Sky-Frame system. Structural frameless glass balustrading provided seamless views from the first floor bedroom towards the Irish sea.
“We are very privileged to work with the talented architects behind these projects.”
For the Welsh property Clear Living were brought in by Manchester architects Stephenson Studio.
The 1,880square feet property sits in a remote spot overlooking Cardigan Bay and is inspired by the paintings of Piet Mondrian.
For the Formby property Clear Living worked with Liverpool architects shedkm.
The two-story home is surrounded by mature woodland and was designed to display the owners’ collection of paintings
Formed in 2007, Clear Living have become a market-leader in the design, supply and installation of structural and frameless glass.
Kristian added: “Our prime motivation is to provide a first class service to all our clients using our superior design concepts and engineering.”
NOTE to editors: If either project wins, Clear Living will not win the 'House of the Year' award. This will go to the winning architects.
