Image Shows Mark McGuinness at his Stockport kitchen

A LOCAL dad has secured an Ocado listing for a pizza product he cooked-up in his own kitchen.

Mark McGuinness, 41, created Dough It Yourself in 2012 when he couldn’t find the product he wanted on the shop shelves.

Now his company produces around 3,000 part-baked hand-stretched pizza bases every week from their purpose-built kitchen, in Stockport, and sell through a string of delis and restaurants as well as online at doughityourself.org

He said: “I love making pizza with the kids, but there was nothing on the market which could give you a real thin-crust pizza experience at home.

“All the bases I could find were too thick and not very tasty at all, I couldn’t believe no-one had launched a part-baked option.

“Initially I was going to pitch the idea to the supermarkets, but then I thought why don’t I just do it myself? And Dough It Yourself was born.”

After touring the product around food fairs, Mark secured his first orders and set up an online shop at doughityourself.org

Since then the business, part of the Don Marco Food Company, has moved twice – once to a catering kitchen in Altrincham, and then to purpose-made premises in Stockport where he employs three full-time staff.

Dough It Yourself produce three different bases – traditional, wholewheat and they recently launched a gluten-free option.

They also make four different sauces: Bianca, Vesuvio, Romana and Diablo.

Mark, who lives in Didsbury, said: “We hand-roll each base to the perfect thickness, you top it yourself and just pop it in a hot oven for about five minutes.

“The Ocado listing is a real feather in the cap and marks the beginning of the next stage of growth for Dough It Yourself.”
