Manchester musicians come together for local dogs’ plight
Renowned Manchester music venue Sound Control is hosting a one-off charity gig on the 21stof September 2014 to raise money for Manchester Dogs’ Home.
The event will raise funds to help rebuild and develop the Harpurhey kennels, which were destroyed in a fire earlier this month. Over 60 dogs were killed and many injured in the blaze, which tore through the kennels in the evening of September 11th.
Featured artists and DJs include JP Cooper, Danny Mahon, The Red Paintings, Clint Boon and Gareth Brooks (XFM), Dirty North, Rowetta and many more. All acts volunteered to be part of the event after hearing about the devastating fire.
Ben Taylor, Events Manager at Sound Control, said: “We were heartbroken to hear about the horrific fire, and straight away wanted to help by throwing a fundraiser, with every penny going to the home.
“Instantly, artists wanted to get on board and play the event, as well as people donating prizes to a raffle, which will take place on the night of the show. We’ve been overwhelmed by everyone’s support and it’s been great how everyone has really pulled together.
“We’re looking forward to helping raise funds, and help Manchester Dogs’ Home carry on doing the standup job it has been doing for so many years.”
Sound Control will be collecting monetary donations, as well as running a raffle with some amazing prizes, including: a full season pass to The Warehouse Project, Kendall Calling tickets, private dining experience for ten at Almost Famous, signed Take That merchandise, a dog pampering session, meal vouchers for a selection of top Manchester restaurants, Eightball headphones, gig tickets and more. Raffle tickets will be on sale for 50p, with all money going to the charity.
The all ages event will run from 3-11pm on Sunday, 21stof September. Tickets are available at www.soundcontrolmanchester.co.uk and are priced at £5 (plus booking fee) in advance, and £10 on the door. All artists, security and staff involved have given their time for free.
