K2A arranges Almedalen’s greenest stage for housing debate

K2A Knaust & Andersson Fastigheter AB is arranging Almedalen’s greenest stage for housing debate during the Almedalen political week in Visby. Among the participants on the panel are the former minister for housing, the government’s special investigator for housing policy, and Nasdaq’s head of European investment.

“We view Almedalen as a prime occasion for representatives of various parts of society to meet and discuss how we can jointly promote sustainable housing construction in Sweden,” says Johan Knaust, CEO of K2A.

The seminars, which will be held at Glasblåseriet in central Visby, will focus primarily on housing construction and climate issues, with discussions concerning how politics, real estate companies and investors can promote a high rate of housing construction while simultaneously taking responsibility for greenhouse gas emissions. Earlier this spring, K2A’s CEO Johan Knaust and the company’s Chief Sustainability Officer Karina Antin proposed that the Government adopt a sector-specific climate target for the housing sector. A target of this type currently exists only for the transportation sector. How to build more housing with less climate impact is the theme for the first of the day’s seminars.

“The Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning says that 60,000 new housing units are needed per year up through 2030. In parallel, Sweden must reduce its emissions, one fifth of which comes from the property sector – the largest share of that from construction. We think more discussion is needed regarding how that equation should be solved,” says Karina Antin, Chief Sustainability Officer at K2A.
