K2A set to create more permanent student accommodation in Visby

The shortage of housing for students on Gotland can now be alleviated following a decision by the region’s environment and construction committee, creating an opportunity for K2A Knaust & Andersson Fastigheter to replace the temporary student accommodation that the company constructed in Visby with twice as many permanent student housing units.

“It’s extremely positive news for both K2A and the students. A new zoning plan will allow for more housing for Visby’s students, while improving conditions for K2A to provide better, more efficient property management. All we need now is for Region Gotland to set aside resources so that the new zoning plan can get off the ground,” said Johan Knaust, CEO of K2A.

Region Gotland’s environment and construction committee has commissioned the urban planning department to amend the existing zoning plan for the Visby Korpralen 1 property, where K2A was granted a building permit in early 2022 to construct 74 temporary student housing units. The units were put up quickly and were ready for occupancy for the autumn term of 2022 as planned. The aim is to replace the 74 temporary student accommodation units with 150 permanent units to be built on the same property once the new zoning plan has been finalised.

K2A provides nationwide student accommodation, from Lund in the south of Sweden to Kiruna in the north. In Visby, which also faces a housing shortage, the company is now by far the largest student housing landlord, having acquired all of GotlandsHem’s student housing in 2022.
