Kährs Group in research collaboration for a more effective raw material utilization
Kährs Group, a Swedish Europe-leading manufacturer of wood flooring and PVC-free resilient flooring, is participating in the industrial graduate school, ProWOOD. The aim is to promote innovation and increase the competitiveness of the Swedish wood industry through a research project, in which ten PhD students will conduct research at each participating company for five years.
The industrial graduate school ProWOOD with PhD students, tutors and mentors on a study visit at the Kährs Group factory in Nybro, Sweden, earlier this year.
The cooperation between Kährs Group and ProWOOD was initiated in autumn 2017, with the aim of increasing value creation and better utilization of raw material in the manufacturing of wood flooring. By increasing the proportion of the log that actually becomes wood flooring, one achieves benefits in terms of reduced costs and more sustainable resource utilization. As part of this initiative, the PhD student Victor Grubii was recruited to the project to conduct his research in collaboration with Kährs Group. He shares his time between Kährs office in Nybro and the Linnaeus University in Växjö in his studies of how the company's processing operation can be developed to make more effective use of the raw material.

The industrial graduate school, ProWOOD, acts as an arena for development and knowledge dissemination for the wood industry, and is a joint initiative between the School of Engineering at Jönköping University, the Linnaeus University, the Knowledge Foundation and companies within the wood industry.
