On the 10th of January 2020, Karnov Group finalised an investment in the Danish legal tech start up, Ante ApS. Ante applies automated editorial processes and AI based search technology to legal information sources.

The investment is part of Karnov Group’s strategy of establishing a broad technology platform that creates increased relevance and efficiency for professionals working with legal information.

Karnov Group CEO, Flemming Breinholt:
‘We are very excited about this investment and the future collaboration with Ante. Their technology platform complements that of Karnov Group in a way that will enable us to jointly develop and market high quality solutions for the broader legal information market. We are especially excited about the possibilities that the collaboration with Ante gives us in the areas of search and improved automated meta-tagging, allowing us to continuously improve the user experience.’

Ante Aps is specialised in categorisation and AI based search, mainly within case law. Besides a solution that enables customers to perform case law search across internal and publicly available sources, the company has recently launched a specialist solution within procurement law. Ante expects to continuously launch new practice area solutions over the coming years.

Ante CEO, Theis Rasmussen:
‘With the investment from Karnov Group, and the experience and knowledge that the company has in the legal information industry, we willl be able to create solutions that respect the existing needs of the legal specialist while leveraging the value-adding capabilities of machine learning technologies. We believe that in the near future, legal search providers will not be able to compete solely on providing access to case law, but on deriving the most value possible from the case law. With Karnov we have found a shared interest in realising this vision.

The two companies aim at launching joint solutions for specialist research on case law within the near future.

‘We continuously investigate the market for companies that can support our vision of setting the direction for the legal information industry. We believe that we have found a great match in Ante, not only because of the interesting business and technology, but also because of the values. Just as Karnov Group, Ante is driven by providing fair access to the rule of law, which resonates very well with our own belief in the access to law being the foundation for society,’ says Flemming Breinholt.
