The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI) and Cancer Research UK have been presented with more than £10,000 by the AtlasFram Group (www.atlasfram.co.uk).

Cheques for £3899.45 and £6429 respectively were presented to Rosie Weston of RABI and Louise Cook of Cancer Research UK at the Framlingham, Suffolk headquarters of the AtlasFram Group. The UK’s leading farmer-owned cooperative, the Group acts as the purchasing, marketing and administrative function of its 1250 Members’ farming businesses throughout the UK.

The money was raised by a team of AtlasFram employees who on Saturday 14 July successfully completed the grueling Three Peaks Challenge, an event which involved climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon, the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales, within 24 hours.

Having initially set a sponsorship target of £5000 the team soon realised that this figure would be exceeded considerably and they decided to aim to double it. Graham Aldrich, who helped to organise the AtlasFram team’s challenge, states:

"We are delighted to be able to provide much-needed support for these two very worthwhile charities, which do such good work in the agricultural industry and wider community. We are now considering what we can do to raise money for other charities in 2013.”

The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (www.rabi.org.uk) is a national grant-making charity operating in England and Wales which supports members of the farming community facing need, hardship or distress. Founded in 1860, it has an unbroken record of providing long-term care and emergency help for retired farmers, farm workers and working farmers and their families.

Founded in 1902, Cancer Research UK (www.cancerresearchuk.org) funds over half of the UK’s research into cancer, including the life-saving work of 4000-plus scientists, doctors and nurses. The charity’s work is entirely funded by public donations and would not be possible without the generosity and commitment of millions of people who support the organisation.

AtlasFram Group is a highly-successful farmer-owned cooperative with an annual turnover of £168 million. Based at Framlingham in Suffolk, it purchases all types of farm inputs and markets combinable crops on behalf of its 1250 Members, who collectively farm more than 300,000 hectares throughout the UK. The Group attracts professional arable and livestock farmers who recognise the value of belonging to a large, expertly-managed input purchasing and crop marketing business operated entirely on their behalf.

In addition to financial savings on a wide range of inputs, from fuel, fertiliser and ag-chem to workshop equipment, tyres, electricity, building materials, feed, animal health products and mobile ‘phones, AtlasFram Members benefit from access to a team of product specialists. Working solely in the best interests of Members, they provide expert advice on a wide range of farming-related issues, advise when to place orders to obtain the best discounts and ensure that products are delivered on time, to the right location. Members receive just one monthly invoice that shows all purchases, which further reduces the time and cost of administration.
