HMS Karlstad, the fifth and final vessel of the Visby series, was christened today, Thursday August 24th 2006, by Director General Marie Hafström, Swedish Armed Forces. The impressive ceremony was held at Kockums in Karlskrona, Sweden, in the presence of guest of honour Birgitta Samuelsson, Chairwoman of Karlstad Local Council. Handover of HMS Helsingborg to Swedish Defence Matériel Administration

At a formal ceremony held in Karlskrona, Kockums recently handed over HMS Helsingborg to the client, the Swedish Defence Matériel Administration. Helsingborg is the second vessel in the Visby series of corvettes. In the near future, Kockums can also look forward to the handover of HMS Visby and HMS Härnösand. Kockums receives Singapore order to two submarines

Kockums, which is part of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems, has signed a contract with Singapore’s Ministry of Defence to supply two Västergötland-class submarines to the Republic of Singapore Navy. Currently in service with the Royal Swedish Navy (RSwN), the submarines will be transferred to Singapore on completion of the modernization and conversion for operation in tropical waters. The contract also includes a logistics package and training for the crews. Kockums has signed a contract with Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) concerning delivery of Stirling engines for Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) systems of Japan´s submarine programme. Order worth more than one billion kronor to Kockums AB

Upgrade of five Landsort-class vesselsKockums has received an order from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) to carry out a Mid-Life Upgrade on five Landsort-class MCMVs (Mine Countermeasures Vessels) as well as a general refit. The five vessels shall also undergo a modification for international missions, ordered by the Swedish Navy. Totally the order is worth slightly in excess of one billion Swedish kronor. Work on the design phase is scheduled to start immediately and the first vessel will be taken into the shipyard in March 2005. Work will then continue until 2009.
