At the location of the old Puotila shopping centre, which was demolished in 2022, 113 new Lumo rental apartments will be completed by the end of June 2024 at Klaavuntie 11, Helsinki. 

However, the range of services offered by the old shopping centre will not disappear forever with the construction of the new building. During the summer, six new business premises will be built on the street level of Klaavuntie 11 and will be occupied by familiar operators from the old shopping centre: a grocery store, a kiosk and several restaurants.  

"The residents of the area have been waiting for the building to be completed ever since the old shopping centre reached the end of its life cycle and was demolished. Klaavuntie is about a five-minute walk from Puotila metro station. The metro takes less than half an hour to get to the centre of Helsinki. If you need to do some more extensive shopping but you don't want to travel all the way to the city centre, Itis Shopping Centre is just a fifteen-minute walk away, or five minutes by bike.

A short walk will get you to several day care centres, a primary and lower secondary school, as well as various parks and other outdoor areas, such as Puotila beach and an allotment garden.

"Our Klaavuntie building respects the village-like character of Puotila. This is a place for everyone: people living alone and together, families with children, pensioners, those who have lived in the area for a longer time and those looking for a new residential area," says Koiranen.

"The plan is to organise a joint housewarming party for the building's residents at the beginning of the autumn. After all the residents have had the chance to settle in."
