KONE to equip the supertall “Hainan Center” skyscraper in South China

KONE Corporation, a global leader in the elevator and escalator industry, has won an order to supply a suite of people flow solutions for the Hainan Center (formerly “Haikou Tower”). The development takes place in the heart of the new Central Business District in Haikou, the capital city of Hainan, which is a tropical island in the South China Sea.
Towering at a height of 428 meters, the Hainan Center is projected to become the tallest freestanding structure of Hainan and the sole supertall skyscraper above 400 meters in a typhoon-prone area. Upon completion in late 2026, it will feature a main 94-story tower with East and West podiums, integrating five-star hotels, high-grade offices, boutique businesses and other amenities.

Hainan Center covers an area of 51 acres with a total construction area of 96 acres. The deepest foundation pit of the main building at the Hainan Center reaches 25 meters, while the amount of earthwork is comparable to that of Shanghai Tower – China’s tallest building.
KONE’s order comprises 31 KONE MiniSpace™ DX elevators, which will serve as the fastest in Hainan Province, traveling at a speed of 10 meters per second. Additionally, KONE will supply 20 KONE MonoSpace® DX elevators and 36 highly eco-efficient KONE TravelMaster 110 escalators.
KONE booked the order in Q4 of 2023.
The developer is Hainan Development Holding Ltd. The main contractor is China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Co., Ltd. The architectural design was done by HENN – Architecture.
