Welcome to meet the butterfly-expert, Ilkka Hanski, who comes to Sweden to receive the Crafoord Prizein Biosciences 2011, “for his pioneering studies on how spatial variation affects the dynamics of animal andplant populations”.He has studied exotic species from Greenland to the rain forests in Borneo, but it was in the Åland islands where his most important discoveries on so called metapopulations were made.The Crafoord Days 2011 begin traditionally in Stockholm and end in Lund.The Crafoord Laureate 2011Ilkka Hanski, Helsingfors University, Finland.
