Intelligent Automatic Chord Selector Device Makes Playing the Guitar Easy
Company seeks crowdfunding to develop the new MiKord, a device that automatically forms cords on a guitar enabling people to play guitar without lessons.
CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA—A guitar can open up a world of music and fun, but learning to play a guitar can be frustrating and time consuming. Rather than slogging through lessons and tab books just to learn one or two songs, the new MiKord device enables guitar owners to begin strumming and singing without having to learn a single chord. Red Flare Technologies, the makers of MiKord, has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise $65,000 by May 30 to help launch the product to a worldwide market.
The MiKord is easy to use and fits to the neck of a guitar quickly. Although MiKord lets users play chords instantaneously, it still requires users to strum the strings and learn songs. Users simply select the song they want to play, download the chord sequence from MiKord’s website, and start playing. “MiKord doesn’t take all the effort out of playing the guitar,” said Red Flare project leader Ian Harrison. “It just lets users spend their time learning the fun part of playing the guitar while they make music and play real songs.”
Funds raised during the campaign will help pay for MiKord’s product development. The final product, including software as well as the web site from which users download song chord progressions, is scheduled to be completed by September. MiKord devices will be ready for shipment by the end of October.
“MiKord is not our first consumer product,” said Harrison. “Our experience with product development and manufacturing will enable us to take MiKord successfully to the market within the timeframes of our plan.”
Contributors to the crowdfunding campaign have a chance to receive some of the first MiKords off the production line at a discounted price. Support levels range in amount from a $5 contribution to an $8,000 contribution, which earns a visit to Cape Town to meet the developers and visit the manufacturing facility.
