Screenwriter Seeks Crowdfunding and Feedback on New Thriller Script about Money, Energy, and International Politics

International politics, power plays, and conspiracy theories abound in Stefano Voltaggio’s new script “Dragons.” Hoping to present his screenplay directly to his intended audience, Voltaggio uses Indiegogo to fund his efforts.

ROME, ITALY–Screenwriter Stefano Voltaggio is doing something very unconventional. He’s reaching out directly to the international film community for feedback on and funding for his miniseries screenplays. Voltaggio’s “Dragons”, a television miniseries about the international politics surrounding energy – oil and gas – and the people struggling for power, will be raising money on Indiegogo through December 28.

Although Voltaggio is from Rome, “Dragons” has an international setting. “My script is about international characters and events that affect people all over the world,” said Voltaggio. “The politics of energy and international finance are interconnected, and power in today's world is not linked to any specific country.” Some of the international settings include Rome, Milan, London, New York, Baku, Moscow, Kiev, Riyadh, Shanghai, Frankfurt, Istanbul, and Rio.

Rather than writing the scripts to be seen first by movie makers, Voltaggio is bucking convention and seeking feedback from audiences first. “Scriptwriters don’t usually get to write for the public,” said Voltaggio. “The end product – the movie – is what the public sees, and they have no say in the development of the film.” Voltaggio is trying to change all that with his crowdfunding campaign, establishing a direct link between himself and the audience for the betterment of the story.

The crowdfunding campaign allows the pubic to see the “Dragons” teaser, read the project, and buy the pilot script. A $20 contribution buys a PDF of the first episode, which provides an introduction to characters and the world of Dragons. A $40 contribution buys a PDF of the first two episodes, and a $100 contribution buys an autographed script of the first two episodes. A $150 contribution buys both a PDF and an autographed script of the first two episodes as well as a detailed description of some of the main characters.

Support at the $250-level gets the buyer’s name on the front page of all scripts and presentations plus scripts and a PDF of the first two episodes, and at the $500-level the buyer gets to name a character in the series as well as signed scripts and developmental credit. A $1,000 contribution buys episode three plus scripts and credits, and a $2,000 contribution gives the buyer a chance to influence the storyline by suggestion one event as well as the scripts to all 12 episodes. A $12,000 contribution buys signed hardcopies of all episode scripts. For more information or to support Voltaggio’s crowdfunding project, visit http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/dragons--2.

Crowdfunding contributions will be used to develop the series, a 600-minute television series, from the writing of actual scripts to presentations, translations, research, and teasers and trailers. With a deadline of December 28, the crowdfunding goal is set at $200,000.
