Export protocols with China strengthen Swedish food exports – Lantmännen participates on site
Sweden is taking the next step in increasing exports of sustainable food products. During Minister for Rural Affairs Peter Kullgren’s visit to China on 4–7 November, export protocols for oats and malt were signed – marking a breakthrough for Swedish food exports.
Lantmännen has for a long time been a driving force behind the ambition to boost Swedish food exports, working closely with the Ministry of Rural Affairs, the Government Offices of Sweden, Business Sweden, and relevant authorities, as well as through recurring delegations and visits.
Per Arfvidsson, Lantmännen’s Deputy CEO and Chair of the Advisory Board for the export development initiative Food Export Center, is part of the delegation to China. He says:
“Expanding exports is essential if we are to increase food production in Sweden. For Swedish agriculture to grow, we need well-functioning markets both domestically and internationally. Opening the Chinese market for Swedish oats and malt is an important step forward and demonstrates the potential of Swedish raw materials and food products.”
In addition to the Minister for Rural Affairs and Lantmännen, Business Sweden and the Swedish Food Federation (Livsmedelsföretagen) are also participating. The purpose of the visit is to strengthen cooperation between Sweden and China in the areas of food, agriculture, and sustainable production. It represents a joint effort by the government, industry, and authorities to drive long-term growth in the Swedish food sector.
“Swedish food stands for innovation, quality, food safety, and sustainability. These are values in global demand — and that we at Lantmännen want to help bring to more markets,” says Per Arfvidsson.
