Congratulations to NBC on bringing needed attention to the topic of education through your Education Nation week.

This is a subject I feel passionately about as founder and director of Lesson One, a non-profit dedicated to teaching skills such as self-control to help children survive and succeed in and out of school.  Our work has been commended by Bill Cosby, Marian Wright-Edelman of the Children's Defense Fund, and Dr. Alvin Poussiant of Harvard, among others. 

This past Tuesday, we were astounded at the similarities between what President Obama said during his “Back to School” speech and the work we do in schools.  Lesson One's activities and discussions continually focus on celebrating diversity, responsibility, resiliency and self-control which were all alluded to in the speech as skills children need to avoid bullying. 

As part of the reporting for Education Nation,  I would be happy demonstrate to your audience ways to teach self- control and other anti-bullying strategies.  We could also provide free information for your website that people can replicate at home, school and the community.  During the week of September 27th, I will be working at a school in southern California and will make myself available for interviews and live demonstrations.
