Stockholm, September 3, 2024
Policymakers, industry leaders, academics, investors, and real estate developers from US and Europe, will explore how to create the right environment for sustained innovation and growth.
Speakers include Beth O’Neill Maloney (Executive Director, Kendall Square Association) Travis McCready (Head of Life Sciences, Americas Markets, JLL) Peter Wallenberg Jr (Chair, Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation) and the Presidents of Karolinska Institutet, KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm University.*
On September 26, Stockholm is hosting a new international economic development conference, Navigating the Future of Innovation Districts.
The World Economic Forum, the World Bank, and the influential US think tank Brookings, have described innovation districts as locations where large ‘anchor’ institutions and companies cluster together and connect with start-ups and accelerators. Ideally, they offer physical proximity, reliable transport options, and a strong mix of housing, office, retail and public space.
The conference Navigating the Future of Innovation Districts will explore how regions and cities can work with innovation districts to strengthen economic development and attractiveness. Sessions will highlight the perspectives of key players, including companies, universities, and real estate owners.
“The City of Stockholm is a firm believer in the central role innovation districts play in fostering and sustaining innovation,” says Ylva Williams, CEO of the event organiser, Stockholm Science City. “The conference will be held in Hagastaden, a great example of a successful innovation district that has helped Sweden to become a leading innovator.”1
“Looking ahead, we hope the conference will stimulate debate and influence policy-making to see innovation districts as an important driver of sustainable economic growth” continues Williams.
