Stockholm, Sweden, August 15: Elypta, Pilloxa and Sigrid Therapeutics have just been announced as finalists in this year’s Medtech Insight Awards. Held in partnership with The MedTech Conference in Boston September 23, the Medtech Insight Awards are in effect the “Medtech Oscars” celebrating and recognizing excellence among the companies, teams, and individuals driving positive change across the global Medtech industry. 10 distinct categories cover notable achievements across the device and diagnostics industries, from technological innovations and partnerships, to emerging markets, to the more personal accomplishments of teams and individuals.

Nominations were individually evaluated, and finalists were selected by an impartial judging panel of experts, representing core sectors of the medtech industry. Their scores, based on the specific criteria for each category, were combined to produce the shortlist, and will ultimately determine the winners for each award announced awards ceremony on September 23.

This year’s judges include Mark Turco, Chief Innovation Officer, Penn Center for Innovation; William Cohn, VP Medical Devices Johnson & Johnson; Kristin Simeons, VP Business Development Ximedica; Randel Richner, President, Richner Consultants; Richard Phillips, Director Healthcare Policy, Association of British HealthTech Industries (ABHI); John Deedrick, Fourth Element Capital and Professor of Surgery, Baylor University, and Serge Bernasconi, CEO, MedTech Europe.

Elypta, Pilloxa and Sigrid are at the forefront of a new wave of Swedish medtech companies making an impact not just in Sweden, but also internationally. “We are delighted with this nomination,” says Karl Bergman, CEO of cancer test pioneers Elypta, nominated in the category Best Technological Innovation: Diagnostics. “Accurate, rapid and cost-effective diagnostics are essential to fulfil the promise of personalized medicine and we believe we need to find markers also in metabolism to achieve this. We are already gaining a great deal of interest in the US for our approach and this nomination will help raise our profile further.”

Nominated in the category Most Innovative Team/Innovator of the Year, Sigrid Therapeutics' CEO comments: "I am incredibly proud of the dedication and passion our multidisciplinary team has shown throughout our journey from scientific discovery in the lab to becoming a clinical stage company. We will soon report topline data from a second clinical trial with our breakthrough medical device for treatment of prediabetes and type 2 diabetes and we are delighted that our novel approach to prevent and treat the global epidemics of diabetes is being recognized internationally."

Pilloxa, nominated in the category Best Technological Innovation: Digital offer a smart pillbox which helps ensure patients take their medication properly. “This is a major problem not only in the US with over 125 000 deaths annually, but also worldwide, especially among the elderly and children. When it comes to developing high quality treatments for future patients, it is equally important to ensure protocol adherence in clinical trials and we are currently running several collaboration projects with Big Pharma. We are delighted to have reached the finals in such a competitive category as Best Technological Innovation: Digital,” says Per Nilsson, Co-Founder.

“The Medtech Insight Awards not only recognize the achievements of innovative people, partnerships and organizations, but they are also an excellent opportunity to highlight the transformative work being done in the medical technology sector overall,” said Christopher Delporte, editor in chief of Medtech Insight. “Given the pace of product development, regulation and business in this industry, the awards finalists have all demonstrated their unique ability to navigate marketplace challenges and seize technological opportunity to improve patient care. And The MedTech Conference is the perfect event during which to showcase their success stories.”
