Strong start for 2011

Swedish aviation began 2011 on a strong note. The number of operations in Swedish airspace increased by 8 per cent compared to January 2010 and rose to 51 000 operations.  International traffic increased significantly by 11 per cent.

“A growth of 11 per cent for international traffic is a considerable amount even if January 2010 was a relatively weak month. What we see is the result of a strong Swedish economy, a strong Krona and a longing to travel,” says Lars Ahlm, business analyst at Luftfartsverket (LFV).
Domestic and en route traffic – flights that do not start or land in Sweden and which represent about 40 per cent of airspace operations – both increased by just over 6 per cent.
“With European traffic as an engine for growth, we expect an increase in traffic of around 3 per cent in 2011 when compared to 2010. In real terms that would mean a total volume of around 675 000 operations in Swedish airspace,” concludes Lars Ahlm.
