LightAir presents its vision: a world without virus contamination
Viral diseases such as the flu fly through the air wherever we are - and cause huge costs every year. LightAir explains how the company's technology meets this challenge.
Influenza viruses that come to Sweden every year entail great costs for society. These are costs for healthcare, but also for employers in the form of loss of production. The influenza virus often infects through the air, for example when someone who is sick coughs or sneezes. Through the air the virus spreads further and if you get it in you can get infected. The risk of being infected is greater indoors than outdoors, as in workplaces, schools and preschools.
LightAir are specialists in air health and have created IonFlow, an air purifier and virus inhibitor that removes 97 percent of airborne viruses in a room. IonFlow can both capture and disable several of the viruses that cause some of our most common viral infections, including the influenza virus.
”This is something completely unique that no one else is working with. IonFlow destroys viruses in the air. If you are sick and sneeze, the virus is eliminated directly in the air before it can infect others”, says Stefan Ekvall, Sales Manager at LightAir.
IonFlow generates negatively charged ions that react with the virus particles in the air. The structure of the virus particles changes, which means that their ability to infect almost completely disappears. LightAir is now making a new initiative where they expand their focus from the consumer market to also include workplaces, schools and hospitals. The vision is a society where the risk of virus infection is almost non-existent.
”Preventing the spread of viral diseases means a great benefit for the individual who does not get sick, for the employer with reduced sickness absence and for society as a whole through reduced burden on the health care system”, says Mikael Pérez, CEO at LightAir.
Airborne infections also cause major problems in animal industry, most recently in the equestrian sport. An infectious horse virus has hit several Swedish farms, with the result that many stables and riding schools have isolated themselves to prevent spreading. If an animal is infected with a virus, it cannot be treated medically and in the case of bacterial infection, antibiotics are used, which contributes to problems with antibiotic resistance. The most effective is to protect the animals from being infected. Mikael Pérez believes that LightAir can play an important role in the preventive health work in animal industry, and LightAir now launches the product AgroPro, based on the IonFlow technology.
”LightAir's ambition is now to take a holistic approach to offering fresh air that is free from both infections and pollution, for both home, work and animal industry environments”, says Mikael Pérez.
