Strong first six months for Lindab

Lindab reports that net sales for the first six months of 2006 reached SEK 3,412 million, achieving an operating profit (EBITA) of SEK 320 million. This represents a considerable increase compared to the same period in 2005 when the operating profit amounted to SEK 150 million.

During the second quarter net sales amounted to SEK 1,918 million (1,494) and the operating profit (EBITA) was SEK 235 million (130)

Efforts in Central and Eastern Europe, notably within the Building Systems product segment, have led to a significant increase in net sales during the second quarter. For the first time this region now represents a larger market than Western Europe in terms of net sales. The Nordic countries, however, remain Lindab's largest market.

The improved profit is explained by reinforced focus on core products within the Ventilation business area; the additional profit from Astron, the company recently acquired by Lindab; as well as strong underlying demand across both business areas.

Lindab, supplier of solutions in steel and sheet metal, operates within two business areas - Ventilation and Profile. Ventilation focuses on the ventilation industry, offering both components and system solutions, whereas Profile focuses on the construction industry, offering an extensive range of building components and complete building systems.

"Demand for our products is strong in all markets. Within Profile we reaped the positive volume effects from increased construction activities following the prolonged winter during the second quarter", says CEO, Kjell Åkesson. "Last year's main acquisition, Astron Buildings S.A., continues to contribute with good profits," says Mr Åkesson.

"Within Ventilation, we implemented a cost-efficiency programme last year, which, combined with strong focus on core products within circular duct systems, has proven to be a successful strategy", concludes Kjell Åkesson.
