DAILY DEALS PROVING AS POPULAR AS EVER
DAILY deals popularity shows little sign of slowing down in 2012, after LivingSocial announced the number of vouchers sold had almost doubled when compared to the previous year.
The social commerce provider, which helps connect local people with local businesses, sold more than 330,000 vouchers in the UK between January and March, almost twice the 167,937 figure recorded for 2011.
Since January 2011, LivingSocial has sold over 1.4 million vouchers in the UK; helping members save well in excess of £50 million, on a variety of experiences and products from spa treatments and fine dining, to 3D televisions and fitness classes.
Peter Briffett, the Managing Director of LivingSocial UK and Ireland, spoke of his satisfaction at the increase: “Over the last 12 months we have been rapidly expanding to offer membership to more UK consumers, and it is fantastic to see that the popularity of people trying LivingSocial, and discovering more about where they live, shows no signs of slowing down.”
The daily deals giant recently announced further expansion in the UK, launching in Birmingham and Leeds, bringing the total number of UK markets LivingSocial operates in to almost 50.
This expansion has also allowed the number of deals being offered by LivingSocial to increase; almost 3,000 deals were completed during the first quarter of 2012, with restaurant deals, health and beauty, and entertainment offers ranking amongst the most popular.
“We are constantly reviewing our offers to ensure we meet our members’ needs. However we enjoy the random surprise and delight element that LivingSocial offers members – and that is why one day you’ll log on and see a teeth whitening offer and the next, a zombie experience,” said Briffett.
Top three most popular LivingSocial deals to date:
- 30,000 - £15 Marks and Spencer gift cards for £7
- 18,009 – two tickets to any film, at any time, at Cineworld cinemas for £8
- 13,000 - £20 to spend at HMV online for £10
A recent survey by the Daily Deals Summit Europe, found that £292m was spent by UK consumers on daily deal websites during the second half of 2011.
