Apply by May 1st for The Boomerang Project’s Link Crew Scholarship Program
Graduating Link Leaders, from The Boomerang Project Link Crew high school student transition program, offered opportunity to apply for academic scholarships now through May 1, 2012.
SANTA CRUZ, CA – April 23, 2012 – The Boomerang Project, a company which trains educators to facilitate peer mentoring in schools using leadership and group development methodologies, is excited to announce that applications for their Link Crew Scholarship Program are being accepted through May 1, 2012.
The Boomerang Project is offering ten scholarships to outstanding senior Link Leaders. The Link Crew Scholarship Program is open to all graduating senior Link Leaders who have completed at least one year of service as a Link Leader. To apply, students must complete the 2012 Link Leader Scholarship Application Form and submit the application, along with a letter of recommendation from a Link Coordinator, to The Boomerang Project by May 1, 2012.
“The Boomerang Project is proud to be able to recognize outstanding Link Crew Leaders and the contributions they have made to their schools. It is truly a privilege to contribute to the future of these incredible teens and give something back to them because they have given so much of themselves to their peers and their communities," said Mary Beth Campbell, co-founder of The Boomerang Project.
Through their internationally recognized high school and middle school transition programs, Link Crew and WEB, The Boomerang Project has reached out to over 3,000 schools and 9,000 educators who are all united in a single purpose: to make schools great, safe and connected places for kids to learn.
Built on the belief that students can help students succeed through activities such as peer mentoring, Link Crew trains upperclassmen to be Link Crew Leaders. As positive role models, these Link Crew Leaders are mentors and student leaders; they lead High School Orientations, Academic Follow Ups, Social Follow Ups, and Leader Initiated Contacts.
“Before becoming a Link Crew Leader I would have never imagined seeing myself where I am today. Before Link Crew I would have described myself as being quiet, shy, and conservative. Now I can say with pride that I am a new person. Link Crew has given me opportunities that have changed me as a person and has helped me learn the skills that a leader needs,” said Christina Perez-Camarillo, a 2009 Link Crew Scholarship Winner.
Link Crew's goal is to provide schools with a structure in which students make real connections with each other, thus increasing school safety and reducing the incidence of bullying with anti-bullying education. The program has impacted millions of incoming freshman transition to high school throughout the United States and Canada for over 20 years—leading to increased attendance, decreased discipline referrals and improved academic performance.
