The Boomerang Project’s student mentoring programs, Link Crew and WEB, are currently welcoming and connecting new students at orientations in over 3,000 North American schools

SANTA CRUZ, CAAugust 15, 2012 – The Boomerang Project, a company which trains educators to facilitate student mentoring in schools using leadership and group development methodologies, is excited to announce that their Link Crew and WEB transition and anti-bullying programs are now underway in more than 3,000 middle and high schools across North America.

To kick off the new 2012-2013 school year, Leaders of the Link Crew and WEB student mentoring programs are taking Welcome Back Celebrations to grand levels to make new students feel connected, accepted and excited to be a part of their school communities. With balloon-popping relays, small group ice-breakers and messages of inspiration and success, 6th graders and freshman across North America are getting red carpet treatment with the help of The Boomerang Project and their mission to make schools great, safe and connected places to learn.

Built on the belief that students can help students succeed, Link Crew and WEB anti-bullying programs train upperclassmen to be WEB and Link Crew Leaders who set the example of how students should treat each other, thus changing the entire culture of schools across North America. As positive role models, these WEB and Link Crew Leaders are mentors and student leaders; they lead School Orientations, Academic Follow Ups, Social Follow Ups, and Leader Initiated Contacts to advise, unite, and inspire new students.

“I became a Link Crew Leader in order to create a positive environment at my school. I really wanted to help out the new grade nine students and make them feel at home. I remember how nervous I felt on my first day of high school and I did not want any of the grade nine students to feel that way. Instead, I wanted them to adapt to their new surroundings and simply love high school,” said Harshdeep Heharsaid, a 2011-2012 Link Crew Leader from Ontario, Canada.

The Boomerang Project’s goal is to provide schools with a structure in which students make real connections with each other, thus increasing school safety and reducing the incidence of bullying with anti-bullying education. The orientation and transition programs impact over one million students each year in 48 states and 4 Canadian provinces, leading to increased attendance, decreased discipline referrals and improved academic performance.
