TrickleStar, a leading worldwide manufacturer of smart energy saving advanced power strips, announces the availability of their new 7 Outlet and 12 Outlet Advanced PowerStrips.

The new advanced power strips are designed with stringent utility criteria in mind, helping maximize energy savings in the home and small office. Based on technical criteria developed by research provided by Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnership (NEEP) collaborative working group, the new Tricklestar Advanced PowerStrip design:

  • Eliminates stand by power energy waste
  • Ensures all electronic components are turned off when the TV or small office computer are shut down
  • Saves consumers money by reducing electric bills

Reduce Wasteful Standby Energy Consumption

“The average home entertainment center can draw as much as 500-800 watts of electricity,” states Bernard Emby, CEO of TrickleStar. “How often does the average person forget to turn off the 190 watt game console, the 80 watt sound bar or surround sound system, not to mention other set top boxes that are used in more and more peoples homes, today?” asks Emby.

Standby power (also known as vampire power or phantom load) is wasted electrical energy consumed while products and appliances are switched off, but still plugged in.

“Incorporating a TrickleStar 7 Outlet or 12 Outlet Advanced PowerStrip with your entertainment center or small office computer system can eliminate standby power that can account for 12% of the average electric bill,” said Emby. “Our advanced power strips help ensure that all your components are turned off when not in use, eliminating standby power, and helping to avoid wasting immeasurable amounts of electricity.”

Typical energy savings, by eliminating standby power (using a 7 outlet strip), are $38 to $50 (or more) per year, with a product lifetime of at least 10 years. Savings can be higher or lower depending on the types of devices connected, hours of use, and the local area price of electricity. Savings can be more significant by insuring that all items are shut-off, not left on, inadvertently creating wasteful daily energy use.

New Energy Saving Advanced Power Strips Exceed Utility Qualifications

The Tricklestar 7 and 12 Outlet Advanced PowerStrips were designed to meet two primary technical criteria formulated by the NEEP collaborative research group:

  • When in the off mode, the outlets cannot draw more than .5 watts eliminating standby power.
  • Incorporate three-way VARIBLE ADJUSTABLE WATTAGE THRESHOLD SWITCHING, so that the strip can sense various primary use device wattage on-off thresholds (like a TV or small computer).
  • Surge protection design incorporates ceramic encased MOV’s (Metal Oxide Varistor components) that are capable of suppressing more energy and dissipating heat faster then traditional MOV’s to help eliminate combustion from heat reducing the probability of fire from an “abnormal” surge.

“Working with the The Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnership (NEEP) over the last two years, we have developed a set of energy saving power strip products that meet both rigid utility requirements while offering “’fireproof’ surge protection,” Emby says.

“Many energy saving advanced power strip products available today offer some of these features, but not all of them in one package. Our goal was to maximize energy savings and provide maximum safety so a utility partner could be rest assured recommending our products , while making them easy to understand and use by the average consumer. Once you plug them in, you can depend on the advanced power strip to do their job and forget about it. A great way to save energy and not waste it.”
