The man who was the Voice of the Highlands for more than 25 years is to talk up businesses in a new role with Inverness-based Lucid PR, Events and Marketing.
Award-winning journalist Iain MacDonald retired this year from the BBC which he joined in 1977 and went on to become a household name in the Highlands and Islands, covering a wide range of news stories on both radio and TV.
He has twice been named Journalist of the Year at the Highlands and Islands Media Awards and in 2012 was presented with the Evan Barron Trophy for a lifetime’s achievement in journalism.
The last two recipients of the Evan Barron Trophy now work for Lucid, as the company’s head of news and media, John Ross, received the award this year.
Iain MacDonald will work for Lucid in various aspects of public relations, marketing, media liaison and media training.
John Ross said: “Iain is a highly respected journalist and broadcaster who is known throughout the Highlands and Islands and beyond for his in-depth knowledge of the area. He brings to Lucid a wealth of experience on a range of issues which will be invaluable in helping our clients get their message to a wider audience.”
Iain MacDonald worked for the BBC for 35 years. In that time, he was a newsreader, a news sub-editor, a programme presenter, a programme producer and was senior producer (deputy manager) at the former Radio Highland.
He appeared on almost all of the BBC's radio services over the years as well as on many TV channels. Most of the time he was a reporter for radio, television and online, taking him as far afield as post-revolutionary Romania, Sweden France and the USA, among other places. He worked in this country at Inverness, Westminster and out of Glasgow.
Iain acted as roving reporter for the Good Morning Scotland programme and covered the country, reporting on a succession of elections, to Holyrood, Westminster and Europe. For two years he also presented Radio Scotland's Saturday afternoon programme "Summer and Sport", featuring sport and music.
