Produced water and separations specialist Opus is launching a recruitment drive to help its ambitious growth plans.
The firm has recently created a network of agents in target countries to enhance its international reputation in consultancy, process equipment supply and environmental services.
It is now also advertising five leading posts at its headquarters in Guildford, Surrey, and research facilities in Flotta, Orkney as it continues to expand.
Opus, whose motto is ‘results delivered’, is seeking a study director, senior process engineer, applications engineer, process chemist and process engineer to work in the oil and chemical industries.
Anne Milton, the Guildford MP, praised the company’s ambition in a difficult economic climate.
She said: “It is great to hear that Opus are creating employment and expanding in the international market.
“It is a demanding environment and it is great to see local companies grow.”
The company recently brought on board Andy Manning as operations manager and in recent months has appointed Rishik Sen (applications engineer), Phil Brownjohn (sales manager) and Darshan Dhonsi (senior process engineer) to the Guildford office.
Ali Thorne (environmental chemist), Stewart Esslemont (engineering projects technician), Andrew Taylor (laboratory technician), Isla Kirkness (laboratory technician), Rosalind Murphy (study director), William Clouston (trainee study director) and Jenna Simison (trainee study director) have also joined the staff at Orkney.

Opus specialises in oil separation and treatments for produced water, which is a by-product of oil production, as well as value-adding solutions for oil and gas producers, including fluids analysis, process upgrades and specialist environmental testing and monitoring.
Recent contracts have been won in Australia, Malaysia, Qatar and Norway as well as in the North Sea and it is proposed to market the Opus expertise and technology further afield as part of moves to more than double turnover after significant investment.
The firm is currently leading a £430,000 joint industry project (JIP) research contract examining the effects enhanced oil recovery (EOR) techniques used in the oil and gas sector have on fluid separation efficiency, and investigating ways of lessening any resulting environmental impact.
Along with partners BP, Shell, Statoil, Total and Wintershall, it will create a database to help improve operational efficiency while eradicating negative impacts on the environment from operations.
Earlier this year Opus also achieved a major breakthrough in green technology by revolutionising international clean sea standards in a massive oilfield off the coast of Brazil.
The firm’s Compact Flotation Unit (CFU) – a purpose-built separation technology – processes thousands of cubic metres of produced water daily on the Maersk Peregrino FPSO (floating production, storage and offloading vessel) serving the two platforms on the Peregrino field off Rio de Janeiro. The FPSO has recently been taken over by Statoil.
The purification process perfected by Opus for produced water has achieved results significantly above industry norms and massively under-cuts progressive international regulations.
Opus had the device built, installed and tested and then optimised the process to achieve the ‘above-spec’ quality of water being discharged back to the sea.
