Open-publisher to donate copies signed by Paula Deen to local non-profit food charities

Raleigh, N.C., March 28, 2011 – Lulu.com, the leader in open-publishing, and PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese are proud to announce the availability of Real Women of Philadelphia: The Cookbook with an introduction by Paula Deen.

The cookbook features 80 winning recipes from the thousands submitted by women nationwide through the Real Women of Philadelphia online community.  The cookbook features an introduction by Paula Deen and the four winners from Season 1 who had the best recipes in the categories of appetizer, entree, side dish and dessert.

“This cookbook culminates Season 1 of our Real Women of Philadelphia program” said Karen Keller, senior associate brand manager, PHILADELPHIA.  “We are very excited to share these winning community member recipes, they demonstrate how delicious and versatile PHILADELPHIA can be as a rich and creamy cooking ingredient.  Lulu was the ideal partner to work with given their high-quality print-on-demand capabilities and technology that allowed for quick processing.”

In celebration of the cookbook’s release and to bring communities together over a love of good food, Lulu will be donating 25 copies of Real Women of Philadelphia: The Cookbook, signed by Paula Deen, to local food charity organizations, such as the non-profit community gardening association SEEDS, to use at annual fundraiser auctions.

“Lulu’s open-publishing model is designed to help all kinds of creators reach a larger audience,” said Bob Young, Founder and CEO of Lulu.com. “This includes authors, developers and even cooks. Real Women of Philadelphia: The Cookbook is the perfect example of the kind of content Lulu looks to publish because it isn’t just one company’s work, but the collaborative effort of an entire open community. We’re thrilled to offer signed copies to non-profit organizations that can use them to benefit their communities as well.”

Lulu offers an array of products including photo books, mini books and calendars that provide a range of creative possibilities. Through an open marketplace of 2.5 million customers, global distribution and open-source APIs, Lulu continues to help a new generation of creators and publishers bring their works to their customers easier than ever before.
