Investment in bee-keepers secures supply for one Manuka Honey brand whilst worldwide stocks tighten

As the poor Manuka harvest begins to hit suppliers, Manuka Health secures stock with strong relationship with bee-keepers

This winter sees a tightening of supply of some Manuka Honey products as the harvest in New Zealand was badly affected by poor weather during the very short flowering season.   The Manuka bush typically flowers for only around 4 weeks each year which leaves it susceptible to drought or rainfall. This is particularly likely to affect the stocks of higher strength Manuka Honeys from a number of suppliers to the UK market.

One supplier however has no such stock issues after an extensive investment both in its own bee-keeping operation and in providing independent bee-keepers with a fair price for their Manuka Honey – Manuka Health New Zealand.

Only established 6 years ago, Manuka Health has become a major player in the worldwide Manuka market and Kerry Paul, founder and Chief Executive comments: “ By paying bee-keepers a fair price and on time we have developed a trust with them. As a consequence we have developed a bee-keeping base of over 40 suppliers who supply 100% of their honey to us – that’s over 60,000 bee-hives! We provide stability to these independent bee-keepers and remove any concerns over where and when they sell their honey each year.”

At the same time as developing relationships with bee-keepers, Manuka Health has developed its own bee-keeping operation by leasing large tracts of land that are densely covered in Manuka bushes. This enables Manuka Health to have total control over honey production and secures both the quantity of Manuka Honey and quality.

As a result, Manuka Health has a secure volume of honey to more than meet the demand over the peak sales period of October to March. In addition, due to this secure supply it is not subject to the price variations which occur when buying honey on the spot market. Since Manuka Health started business it has only made one price increase whilst some suppliers can make up to two price increases each year.

About Manuka Health Manuka Honey

Supported by the rigours of scientific research, Manuka Health natural health products can enhance your health and well-being.  As well as being great tasting all our honey is measured using a simple and clear measuring system called MGO which stands for Methylglyoxal

MGO represents the number of milligrams of the active compound, Methylglyoxal, per kg of Manuka Honey.  So MGO 100 means there is at least 100mg of the active compound in a kg of Manuka Honey.

A number of other measurement systems are in use but none indicate clearly the amount of active compound in the pot.

Manuka Health Manuka Honey comes in five potencies:

MGO 30

MGO 100 (Recommended minimum for daily maintenance)

MGO 250 (2.5 x more methylglyoxal than MGO 100 )

MGO 400 (4 x more methylglyoxal than MGO 100 )

MGO 550 (5.5 x more methylglyoxal than MGO 100 )

All of our MGO Manuka Honey products are scientifically tested and verified to ensure consistent quality.  Every batch is subjected to laboratory tests that measure various quality parameters including Dietary Methylglyoxal content.

Also in the range are Manuka Honey toothpastes, adults and kids throat syrups, honey suckles and lollipops.

Manuka Health Manuka Honey is available from health stores and online
