Michelin has financed more than £600,000 of agricultural tyres in the first year of running its 0 per cent credit scheme, helping more than 100 farmers to fit its premium tyres.

Michelin’s flexible payment programme gives qualifying UK farmers and contractors the ability to purchase its agricultural drive and trailer tyres, as well as the specialist wheel rims required for its Ultraflex technology range, whilst spreading the cost over two years at a 0 per cent finance rate.

Launched at the start of 2013, Michelin was the first agricultural tyre manufacturer to offer a finance package of this kind in the UK. Following the success of the initial offer, the company is now trialling the scheme on the full Kleber range of agricultural tyres.

Robert Wilson, Owner of Aberdeenshire-based Wilson Contractors, purchased three sets of Michelins for his New Holland tractors, through the payment plan.

He says: “For me, like many farmers, tyres remain a significant running cost. I’ve been fitting Michelins for many years and am in no doubt of the benefits of selecting premium rubber, but when the new credit scheme was launched, I jumped at the chance of being able to spread the cost.

“It means we can free up cash flow to use in other areas of the business, whilst still fitting the best tyres possible.”

Supplying the tyres for the family-run business was local Michelin Exelagri dealer, Redpath Tyres.

Director, Neil Redpath, adds: “The credit scheme has been really popular with customers, as for the first time it gives them the flexibility to pay for agricultural tyres in more manageable chunks. As Michelin tyres are a premium brand the upfront cost of paying for them can sometimes be a bit daunting, so the scheme is a fantastic way for customers not to have to compromise on quality because of cost.

“By trialling the offer on Kleber tyres too, customers have a complete range of tyres to pick from, meaning they get the right fitment for their machine and operation. The offer highlights how Michelin and its Exelagri dealers understand the needs of customers, by not only providing great products with great performance, but a fantastic service too.”

The promotion includes Michelin’s full range of agricultural drive and trailer tyres, including its patented Ultraflex technology tyres, which are designed to carry the same load at lower pressures, or heavier loads at the same pressure, compared with conventional agricultural tyres. This ensures better traction on dry and wet soil, a larger footprint with less soil compaction for increased yield and improved fuel economy.

The full Ultraflex technology range includes Michelin’s AxioBib and XeoBib tyres for use on tractors, CerexBib tyres for combine harvesters and SprayBib tyres for self-propelled sprayers.

For 2014 the finance package is also being trialled on the full range of Kleber agricultural tyres. To take advantage of the Flexelagri payment plan a single Michelin or Kleber transaction must total at least £3,500, and not exceed £15,000. All tyres must be purchased from one of Michelin’s participating Exelagri accredited dealers.

The total amount is payable in 24 monthly Direct Debit instalments.
