(Oklahoma City, Okla., Dec. 29th, 2011) MIPT (Memorial Institute for the Prevention of terrorism) and the New York City Police Department have partnered to provide InCOP training to law enforcement and coordinate information collection.

Trainers from the NYPD completed a three-day InCOP Train-the-Trainer course on November 15th-17th, 2011 in all InCOP courses (InCOP 1-4). The trainers will take the course to train their officers with the goal of improving information collection and reporting skills throughout the department.

“When Timothy McVeigh detonated a truck bomb that killed 168 innocent people, firefighters from New York came to our aid. Sadly, we had the opportunity to send responders to New York on 9/11. This training is a continuation of the legacy of mutual aid and reinforces the bond between our two cities” said David Cid, MIPT’s Executive Director. “The opportunity to train the New York City Police Department is a defining moment for MIPT. “This agency and city, much like Oklahoma City, have a keen understanding of terrorism and its effects. To work side-by-side with the men and women of the NYPD is a privilege.”

MIPT’s InCOP training delivery will begin in 2012 in New York City.

InCOP is designed to improve the fundamental and essential skill of information collection for uniformed officers. InCOP 1 concepts are reinforced by the Nationwide Suspicious Activity Reporting (SAR) Initiative (NSI).

The New York City Police Department joins other law enforcement department such as Milwaukee, Denver, Boston, Chicago, Miami-Dade and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office as alumni of the InCOP program.

MIPT is a training partner of FEMA or the Federal Emergency Management Agency serving the nation’s 800,000 uniformed officers and law enforcement leadership. Our mission is to enhance the public safety through training, professional development and education.
