City Multi Donation Will Help College to Train the Engineers of Tomorrow

The donation of a City Multi air conditioning system to one of the country’s leading colleges is helping ensure that the engineers of tomorrow are right up to speed with the latest VRF technology.

Eastleigh College is one of the top providers of refrigeration and air conditioning qualifications in the UK and Mitsubishi Electric hand-picked the Ofsted ‘Outstanding College’ to be the owner of the sophisticated equipment.

Modern air conditioning systems offer simultaneous heating and cooling to different parts of a building to maximise energy efficiency and anyone working on them needs to have appropriate training,” explained Ben Bartle-Ross, Senior Pre-Sales Engineer at Mitsubishi Electric, who attended the handover ceremony. “We know about the excellent apprenticeship schemes that are already run by the College so were delighted to have the opportunity to provide equipment that will help enhance the training.”

Hugh Hawkins, Course Manager for Level 3 Refrigeration at Eastleigh College spoke of his excitement in receiving the technology: “It will allow our advanced apprentices to take their learning to a whole new level,” he commented. “It will be a new field for them to learn in, full of all sorts of knowledge and experience. This equipment really is a fantastic opportunity for the students to know and understand what is going on in the modern world.”

One of the students currently completing an apprenticeship with the College is Pauline McAfee, who worked with her current employer, Kooltech to install the system. Pauline has already benefitted from on the job training which allowed her to take the lead on the installation.
“Thanks to the work I’ve already completed with Kooltech, I’ve been able to show the lecturers that I have the knowledge to install something which relies so heavily on electronics,” she said.

John Hammond, National Technical Manager at Kooltech also added that equipment like this is imperative in “making the students familiar with, and giving them the skills to work with confidence on these systems.”

The equipment has been added to the already impressive training facilities offered at the College, which was part of the reason behind Mitsubishi Electric’s decision. “We have been very impressed with the College and the vast array of equipment that students train on,” added Bartle-Ross.  “From what I have seen so far the standard of teaching at the college is very high.”
