Mitsubishi Electric adds more ErP compliant equipment to range

Mitsubishi Electric has released details of additions to its popular M Series and Mr Slim ranges of air conditioning systems, all of which fully comply with the requirements of the Energy Related Products (ErP) Lot 10 Directive which came into force at the beginning of 2013.

The new models join the manufacturer's existing range of fully compliant units, each featuring labels detailing seasonal efficiency and performance.

The EU-wide ErP rules, which focus on performance in three distinct climate zones – cold, moderate and warm – are designed to help meet the urgent need to reduce energy use, running costs and emissions, and the requirement to reduce equipment sound levels.

“We've known for some time that more detailed labelling and performance criteria was coming in to force in 2013, so last year we made sure all of our products were compliant,” explained Sebastien Desmottes, Product Marketing Manager for the company’s air conditioning division. “Our new models also adhere to the strict requirements of the directive which applies to all air conditioning units under 12kW.”

He added: “It is now more important than ever to understand that annual efficiency should be the measurement of effectiveness, not any single test measured in laboratory conditions. This latest directive enables a better understanding of real-life running costs and CO2 emissions.”

All M Series, Mr Slim and City Multi products under 12kW typically offer between 15 and 25 per cent reduction in annual power consumption compared to previous models.

Mitsubishi Electric has long championed the use of seasonal efficiency as the best way of delivering a truer picture of performance for end users, rather than Coefficient of Performance (COP) and Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) at nominal conditions.

All air conditioning units affected have to have a data sheet detailing Seasonal Coefficient of Performance (SCOP) and Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) data in the three climate zones, as well as COP and EER. It also shows data on the energy consumption and sound power levels.

“We welcome the demands for clearer visibility of true product performance, energy use, running costs and emissions,” adds Desmottes. “We have not only ensured that our products have been ready for ErP for some time, but have also developed support tools for our customers to help them understand the changes.”

Further details on the new M Series and Mr Slim models are available on the company's air conditioning website www.airconditioning.mitsubishielectric.co.uk which also contains a link to the ErP legislation and ErP product information.
