A team of intrepid cyclists from Mitsubishi Electric has surpassed its fundraising target by collecting over £2,600 in sponsorship for the British Heart Foundation, after taking part in the annual London to Brighton cycle ride.

The 12 members of staff from the company’s Hatfield and Milton Keynes sites completed the 55 mile journey and team organizer, Emma Gold was proud of the entire team, who braved the early morning rain clouds and arduous hills of the route to arrive in Brighton in time for some late afternoon sunbathing.

“I’ve always been an admirer of the work the British Heart Foundation does and I was delighted when so many of my colleagues agreed to join me,” explained team organizer Emma Gold. “We set ourselves a target of £2,500, so we are really pleased at the level of support we’ve been given.”

In all, 28,500 cyclists joined in the ride which started with a 6:30am start at London’s Clapham Common. The route winds its way through the country lanes of South London, Surrey and Sussex.

“I think the worst bit was Ditchling Beacon, which is a long, slow climb uphill,” said Emma Gold, who is Operations Manager for the company’s Ecodan Heating Division.

“Everyone made it though and we all met up on the beach with our family and friends to celebrate a real team effort.”

Ditchling Beacon is the third highest point on the South Downs and is about 10 miles from the beach. The mile-long ascent is worth it because of the stunning views at the top, and the long descent into Brighton.

Despite exceeding their target, the team is happy to take more donations for this worthy cause.  Donations can be made by visiting the special site set up by Emma Gold at www.justgiving.com/emma_gold.
