Film Festival, Presentations, STEP AFRIKA! Highlight Montgomery College Humanities Days, Oct. 16-17

The Global Humanities Institute and the Paul Peck Humanities Institute at Montgomery College have organized two days of student work, poster sessions, moderated films, faculty presentations and writing workshops, October 16 and 17, to celebrate the humanities and their effects on society.

Humanities Days culminate with a capstone performance by renowned dance troupe, STEP AFRIKA!, Thursday, October 17 at the Cultural Arts Center on the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus. Tickets are free, but reservation is required for the STEP AFRIKA! performance by clicking on this link. The film festival will be Wednesday, October 16.

Film Festival Highlights on October, 16 Include:

·         “Hotel Rwanda,” 5:30-7 p.m., Globe Hall, Germantown Campus, Facilitated by Professors Rachel Sullivan and Benedict Ngala

·         “Pray the Devil Back to Hell,” 4:15-5:45 p.m., Theatre Arts Arena, Rockville Campus, Facilitated by Professors Genevieve Carminati and Alonzo Smith

·         “Islamic Art: Mirror of the Invisible World,” 4-6 p.m., CM211, Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus, Facilitated by Imam Haytham Younis, co-founder of the Jewish-Islamic Dialogue Society

·        “Wall of Essays: International Women,” 2:30-3:45 p.m., Globe Hall, Germantown Campus, Professor Ann Sallie

·       “Women and the Turmoil in the Middle East,” A Lecture by Dr. Haleh Esfandiari, Middle East scholar, 2-3:30 p.m., TC136, Rockville Campus

·        “Religious Diversity: A Dialog,” 1-2 p.m., Cultural Arts Center, Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus, Professors Dan Jenkins and Michael LeBlanc
