On September 16, 1946, the first Montgomery College classes were held in the evenings at a local high school with a student body of 186 men and women. Today, the College has grown to a multi-campus institution and serves nearly 60,000 students a year, through both credit and noncredit programs, in more than 100 areas of study.

Montgomery College Professor Emily Rosado, in the Department of English at Montgomery College-Rockville, has been named the Individual of the Year in Higher Education by the Maryland Distance Learning Association (MDLA). Professor Rosado developed the first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) offered by a community college in Maryland. More than 200 high school students from across the state will converge on Montgomery College Saturday, January 18, for the 2014 Maryland Science Bowl.
