Mott MacDonald appointed design engineer for Hyderabad metro stations, India
Mott MacDonald has been appointed as detailed design engineer for six stations by Larsen and Toubro, the company which is implementing the Hyderabad metro development in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India.
Covering a total distance of 71.16km, the INR164billion Hyderabad metro rail network comprises three corridors and 66 stations – Miyapur to L.B. Nagar (28.87 km/27 stations), Jubilee Bus Station to Falaknuma (14.78km/14 stations) and Nagole to Shilparamam (27.51km/23 stations). Capable of carrying 60,000 passengers per hour at peak times, power will be fed back into the grid through regenerative braking supplying 45 per cent of the energy required.
Mott MacDonald will provide architectural, structural, and public health design services for three interchange stations at Ameerpet, Parade Grounds and the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station. The consultancy will also design three other stations located at Panjagutta, Hi-Tech City, and Jubilee Hills Checkpost. The consultancy will use building information modelling (BIM) which will offer significant benefits such as better resolved solutions, faster project delivery, enhanced sustainability and improved whole life performance.
Karthikeyan Ramalingam, Mott MacDonald’s project director, said: “Mass Rapid Transit System has become a key area for infrastructure development in the major cities of India. At present, metro projects are being implemented in seven Indian cities and Mott MacDonald is involved in all of these. Our appointment builds upon our existing work for Larsen and Toubro as detailed design consultants on the Chennai Metro Rail project.”
Construction of the entire scheme is due to be completed by the end of 2017.
