Mott MacDonald has appointed Richard Shennan as Group practice manager for its buildings business. Richard will help develop and win business, assist with the quality of project delivery and customer service and promote collaboration across the whole of the consultancy.

Richard was previously managing director of Fulcrum Consulting, which joined the Mott MacDonald Group in 2009. Recognised internationally as a leading expert on underground energy storage and low-energy design innovation, he has worked on major projects such as the Darwin Centre Phase 2 at London’s Natural History Museum and the award-winning Jubilee Library in Brighton.

Since 2011 Richard has acted as Mott MacDonald’s first Group Building Information Modelling (BIM) champion, implementing the consultancy’s strategy to make BIM the technology of choice on all major engineering projects by the end of 2013. Richard will combine both his practice manager and BIM champion roles for the Group.

Keith Howells, chairman of Mott MacDonald, said: “Group practice managers are a key part of Mott MacDonald’s organisational structure. Richard will focus on integrated structural and building services engineering, building performance in its widest sense. He will also channel emphasis on collaborative working driven by improved process and increased use of a common data.”

Richard is a chartered engineer as well as a member of both the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) and the Institute of Energy.
